Biography

Andrew Bukowski was exposed to many different musical sounds from a young age, and his parents’ different styles had a major effect on his taste in music. His mother was an avid fan of 70s pop, so the music of Elton John, Tina Turner, and The Carpenters regularly played throughout the house. His father was an avid listener of mid century artists like Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley, and 90s rock banks like Santana and Hootie & the Blowfish.

Bukowski showed an early interest in music, regularly watching his mother with intense intrigue as she played Für Elise and Waltz of the Flowers on the family’s Winter spinet. He composed his first piece of music at the age of 6 by playing only the black keys on the piano, calling it Wind. At age 7, Bukowski heard Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On, and after a few listens was able to play the melody by ear on the piano. His mother, recognizing his aptitude and excitement at learning a song by ear, quickly enrolled him in piano lessons.

In high school, Bukowski became immersed in the repertoire of the American musical theater. He studied works from the many eras of theatrical music, finding a passion for music that was dramatic and personal.

In 2012 Bukowski graduated from Berklee College of Music with a BM in Composition. Berklee is known worldwide as one of the only colleges that offers courses on Pop, Rock, and Jazz as a primary focus. As a classical composer who had a love for these genres growing up, and as a composer whose music was informed by these genres.

Bukowski’s musical voice was able to develop in an environment that encouraged him to embrace familiar harmonies, while his passion for dramatic storytelling music pushed him to always stay a step ahead of the listener. His pieces are often reflective of the natural world, with music that is inspired by the ocean, the cosmos, plants, and the skies.

Bukowski lives in New York, NY. He is an avid composer of large-scale orchestral works, music for chamber ensembles, and small-scale solo pieces. He is the owner and sole operator of the piano tuning business, GoodAfterTune Piano Services.
